Pale wood, ebony inlay and Classical simplicity are the hallmarks of this early nineteenth century style so I used a pale yellow scheme with black accents to convey the spirit of the era. I antiqued the woodwork below the dado with a subtle colourwash and painted the walls with a faux sandstone effect. I fixed up a window drape, (actually it’s a twill dust sheet!) which were popular in nineteenth century Europe, and added real and papier mache stones for an elemental look. |
